NOTICE

Friends & Interested Parties,

Re:
30 Day Ballot Vote for EMERGENCY SMART© Sustainable Building Product Standard:  OCT. 10 - NOV. 10

In an unprecedented leadership action, the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Conference of Mayors, and European Mayors are aggressively stopping dangerous climate change by Reducing Fossil Fuel Energy Use in Buildings by 50% in Four Years and Being Carbon Neutral by 2030:  The 2030 Imperative.

SMART© Standard.  To help achieve this Imperative, AIA and Market Transformation to Sustainability (MTS) are finalizing the EMERGENCY SMART© Sustainable Building Product Standard which substantially reduces dangerous climate change pollution globally.  It covers all of the thousands of products and materials in the whole building environment across the global supply chain.

It is an EMERGENCY National Standard due to the urgent global need to counter long term rapidly rising conventional energy costs, and stop dangerous global climate change within the next 5-10 years before it is irreversible according to NASA, United Kingdom, and American Association for the Advancement of Science.

At the September National Public Meeting for the Standard and the SMART© Committee Call, the Standard was fully supported and no changes recommended.  It is the result of four unanimous Ballot votes of leading manufacturers, purchasers/specifiers, and governments.  The following Public Meeting notice was sent repeatedly to over 7,000 people:  http://www.semaphoria.com/email/aia_080106

OFFICIAL BALLOT VOTE.  Please vote on this Draft Consensus Standard by November 10 by filling out the Ballot Form at this link which also contains the Standard, two page summary Scorecard, and backgound:  http://mts.sustainableproducts.com/SMART_Building_Product_Standard.   MTS is an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Accredited Standards Developer.

Standard Provides Substantial Global Benefits:

      -    100% Reduction of Over 1000 Pollutants covering 12 Environmental Impacts Including Climate Change
      -    100% Use of Green-e Renewable Power

      -    100% Energy Efficiency
      -    100% Post Consumer Recycled or Organic/BMP Biobased Materials
      -    100% Reuse/Product Reclamation
      -    Social Equity Requirements

The SMART© Standard is a Product of Four Years of Consensus Voting The Standard is almost identical to the approved SMART© Fabric, Textile, Flooring and Apparel Standards and California Gold Sustainable Carpet Standard adopted by the State for all purchasing, and has thus gone through four years of substantial consensus including four unanimous Ballot Votes.  The City of Chicago is using the California Gold Standard for purchasing and the City of Dallas is using all of these Standards for purchasing.

Thank You for Your Interest in This Very Important Activity Stopping Dangerous Climate Change & Improving Global Sustainability!  Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions, or MTS at 202-338-3131, MTS@sustainableproducts.com.
